Broadway is accredited by the joint commission and has achieved the Gold Seal of Approval® for high-quality services.
What really makes Broadway stand out from the rest is our multi-dimensional approach to treating addiction. Broadway strives to treat every aspect of our client’s addiction and believes in treating the whole person. We offer a comprehensive life skills curriculum for all of our clients. We provide life skills training throughout the entire addiction treatment program as well as during aftercare. This helps to ensure the long-lasting success of our client’s recovery.
WHAT ARE LIFE SKILLS?
Life skills are tools that can be used to successfully navigate the most common challenges individuals face in their day to day life. Broadway believes that individuals who receive a well-rounded addiction treatment program will have the best chance at lasting sobriety. When Broadway treats the whole person they also help to educate individuals on how to handle typical life stressors in healthy ways. Healthy coping mechanisms are imperative for lasting recovery. Broadway focuses on these eight major areas in their comprehensive life skills training: employment, education, family, housing, finance, friendship, physical health, and mental health. At some point in their lives, every person will face a challenge in one or all of these areas simultaneously. Developing healthy coping strategies and being able to navigate conflict when it arises will be the key to avoiding a relapse. Broadway teaches individuals how to find a balance of all these life skills which allows them to make progress in their life.
OVERCOMING ADDICTION THROUGH LIFE SKILLS TRAINING
Broadway incorporates their life skills training program right into the day-to-day of their addiction treatment programs. It is a key component in our overall philosophy of treating the underlying conditions that lead an individual down the path of addiction. As an individual works through our program, they will receive many daily lessons on how to cope in healthy ways to live’s stressors. Dealing with trauma, which most addicted individuals have experienced, and addiction is exponentially more difficult when combined with the stress of everyday life. Situations like lack of employment, unstable living conditions, physical ailments, loneliness, debt, unhealthy friendships, bad diet, and an unsupportive family are all examples of things that regularly create roadblocks for those who are in recovery. Broadway’s life skills program teaches individuals how to cope with these issues in healthy ways to avoid returning to bad habits.
OUR LIFE SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:
JOB TRAINING
Broadway’s life skills training program is comprehensive and touches on many different tools an individual will need to find long term success in regards to employment. Broadway educates their clients on career and job training, resume writing, job interview preparation, and work-related skills. Many individuals who are struggling with addiction haven’t learned these skills yet, or if they have they need a refresher. Broadway also educates clients on; interpersonal communication skills, customer service, professionalism, and how to dress for the workplace. Many people who come out of rehab do not have the work experience necessary to get a quality job or even fill up a resume. The goal of recovery is to acclimate and be a productive member of society, which includes holding down a steady job.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Another important aspect of Broadway’s life skills training program is to offer continuing education. Many individuals who are struggling with addiction have put their education on the back burner. This could be anything from failing grades to dropping out completely. Broadway offers continuing education programs such as; high school equivalency, a GED program, college preparation, college application writing, adult school, and teaching the value of education. By taking advantage of these programs clients can get a good start on progressing their education and learning new skills that will help them be successful in recovery.
FAMILY LIFE
The ability to deal with family life in a healthy way is another important aspect of successful recovery from addiction. Broadway offers many different types of family therapy that can help an individual and their loved ones recover from family dysfunction. Many times people struggle with understanding a dysfunctional family, and many addicted individuals come from unstable family life. Broadway offers trauma counseling, relationship building skills, and family intervention to help when dealing with difficult family members. Another important part of Broadway’s life skills training is the family conflict resolution sessions that teach healthy family coping skills to help when dealing with family problems. Most clients have to deal with family on some level even if they don’t live with them because family is forever. Some clients have to live with their families and there could be a history of abuse and active addiction in the home as well. It is important that clients are able to address and heal from their family issues.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING ASSISTANCE
Broadway offers help in finding affordable housing assistance to their clients. We can help our clients find a quality sober living facility after they have successfully completed one of our addiction treatment programs. Many times, we can also help our clients connect with other sober roommates. The chances for lasting sobriety are much higher if the people a newly sober individual are living with are also sober. Broadway’s counselors can also assist with housing referrals for affordable living. The most important part of life after completing treatment is to make sure the newly recovered individual is living in a stable home environment. If they are not in a stable living situation then the odds go way down for a long-lasting recovery. Unstable living situations don’t create a safe space which causes a large amount of stress.
PERSONAL FINANCE
Financial stress is one of the worst kinds of stress that people can face. Broadway is committed to teaching their clients personal finance skills through their life skills training program. Clients will be educated on topics such as; how to save money, getting out of debt, how to apply for food stamps and FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), how to open a bank account, and how to apply for social security benefits (if applicable). There will also be resources available on government assistance programs, legal assistance, low-income programs, applying for child support, and affordable transportation. Broadway’s life skills training program takes place in conjunction with their addiction treatment program and will allow access to many resources.
HEALTHY FRIENDSHIPS
Friendship is another important aspect of leading a healthy and well-rounded life. Loneliness can be debilitating and detrimental to lasting recovery. When newly sober individuals do not have a community to rely on or to confide in, there is a very high chance for relapse. Broadway’s life skills program will help to teach clients how to be a good friend, and how to have and contribute to positive friendships. Clients will learn the characteristics of healthy friendships and how to avoid toxic relationships and manipulative behavior. Broadway will focus on teaching clients to be mutually respectful, how to be selfless, how to love yourself, and how to care for others. Building trust and in a supportive network is going to be key in keeping an individual’s new found sobriety on track.
PHYSICAL HEALTH
Physical health is an important part of being a total-person healthy individual. It plays a key role in feeling good inside and out. When you take care of yourself physically your body can operate at its best. Broadway’s life skills training program teaches clients basic nutrition through cooking techniques, healthy recipes, meal planning, and healthy diets. Our program also advocates the importance of physical health in the form of an active lifestyle by working out. Broadway offers yoga and surf therapy as part of their addiction treatment program. They also teach clients how to manage chronic conditions including medication management for those suffering from chronic pain. Broadway’s counselors can help clients apply for health insurance, which can be a daunting task.
MENTAL HEALTH
Being mentally healthy and stable is an imperative part of recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs. Broadway believes in total body health, and mental health is a very important part of that. Broadway’s life skills training program will help teach clients how to love yourself and the importance of self-love. This helps clients to know their worth and be able to set healthy standards and boundaries. Preparing clients mentally means equipping them with healthy coping skills and teaching them how to deal with stress. Another important part of Broadway’s life skills training program is teaching clients the benefit of sleep and how it is required to recharge our mind and body.
LIFE SKILLS TRAINING DOESN’T END WHEN YOU LEAVE REHAB
The life skills our clients will learn through Broadway’s life skills training program will continue to build upon itself even after they leave rehab. Broadway’s programs are creating the foundation and laying the base for an individual to become a total-body healthy person. We will plant the seed and help nurture it while attending treatment, but it will continue to grow as our clients go through new life experiences. Our clients will leave treatment equipped with the skills they need to manage life’s daily stressors and the ability to start to re-build their life. Once you join the Broadway family you are always a member. We will stick with you and continue on your journey to building a long and happy life free from drugs.
