Addiction affects all areas of life: education, employment, relationships and finances, just to name a few. For people who have been struggling for years with addiction, or who grew up with addiction, getting clean and sober is a huge part of the battle, but it isn’t the only battle.
Many recovering addicts have little or no employment history, no job training and an incomplete education. For some, things like grocery shopping, cooking meals and paying bills may seem overwhelming. And, trying to find a job or affordable housing can feel like an insurmountable challenge.
Broadway Treatment Center knows that for people new to sobriety, these obstacles can have an impact on their success in recovery. A person needs hope in order to thrive and reach their full potential. Our Life Skills Training provides that hope, along with real, practical and relevant skills that help our clients achieve their goals.
Career Training And Placement
Our career training and placement program helps individuals develop skills essential to finding gainful employment. Economic hardship and difficulty finding work is a huge barrier that many newly recovering addicts face. These challenges, if not addressed can make it difficult to stay the course.
With career training, time is spent discovering strengths and interests so that possibilities are uncovered. For many people, this is the first time they have had the freedom to explore the possibilities of choosing a career path.
Practical job skills are taught and participants will learn how to build a resume. In addition, there is an emphasis on what it takes to be successful in the working world. This program not only teaches valuable skills, it also builds confidence.
Knowledge is power, and whatever individual goals are, education can empower and increase chances of success. Our education assistance program can help clients navigate the challenges and opportunities of continuing education.
Things like completing your high school education, enrolling in college or a vocational program, applying for financial aid or help in finding the right school or program can make a huge difference. Education not only broadens horizons and opens up opportunities, it also builds self-esteem and a sense of competence. Our education assistance program helps turn dreams into reality.
Daily Life Skills
Recovery isn’t just about sobriety, it is about living life on life’s terms and becoming responsible and productive. After an often lifelong struggle with addiction, many people find themselves without some of the basic skills to make their lives comfortable and happy.
Our program teaches many of the basic skills needed to do just that. Cooking and meal planning are taught, along with shopping and budgeting. Planning the day, paying bills and many of the little things that are often overlooked and taken for granted. These tasks may seem basic, but for those who are not accustomed to them, they can be overwhelming.
What is a sober coach? A sober coach provides one on one encouragement, support and an occasional kick in the pants. A sober coach provides a sounding board and a safe place to express fears and concerns as you walk through the challenges of early recovery. Sober coaching also offers companionship and helps guide you through some of the trickier situations that life will throw at you during your recovery, helping you to make positive choices and maintain your abstinence.
With this type of coaching, you learn in real-time how to deal with temptation, strong emotions, unexpected events and bad days without relapsing. Coaching can help build a strong foundation for your recovery so that you are able to successfully maintain your sobriety long-term.
Successful recovery isn’t just about sobriety. Once treatment is completed, clients need to be able to go out into the world and build lives for themselves. They need to be able to go back to school, get jobs and pursue their dreams. Broadway Treatment Center helps ensure that their clients don’t leave treatment without the skills they will need to not only continue to succeed in their sobriety, but in their lives, too.
Learning how to live life again is key to long term sobriety, which is why Broadway’s Life Skills Training program is necessary to obtaining that goal.
